This is it

This is it "Missy Times" readers. The prelude to all preludes, the beginning of the end.

This announcement is a heads-up to let you know that the upcoming issue of The Missy Times will be the last, closing chapter in the newsletter's seven year tenure.

Although this is a sad turn of events, it's also a timely one. I started The Missy Times at age eight, and now, at fifteen, I'm entering tenth grade and moving on to new writing adventures, including taking an AP English Language class and working towards getting published in other local publications.

I am currently collecting feedback for the final edition; therefore anything you would like to contribute is greatly appreciated. Things I'm looking for include: a few comments on how you started getting The Missy Times, what your favorite part was about The Missy Times, the title or subject of a memorable story you read in The Missy Times, and your reaction to The Missy Times' retirement. No need to be lengthy-- just mail or email or even telephone one or two sentences by this Friday, July 5th. That leaves you the whole week to think about it!

Please support the MT, because after this, the "CLOSED" sign is going up and it'll be no more.

More details regarding The Missy Times' departure to follow.

Thoughts from Inside My Head

Everyone is waiting. They're so anxious for a Missy Times. It's been such a long time that they're all worried The Missy Times is over. But it's coming. I will finish an issue someday. Someday soon.
My mind is so blocked, so clogged with ideas and phrases that won't materialize out of my head and onto the page. I can imagine my finished articles, I can imagine the relief of holding the freshly printed copies in my hands and seeing proof that all the agony of this past summer was not for nothing. It has been so long.
I think back over the many months I've struggled to write and shudder at the lost time that has passed as week after week goes by with no more progress than the last. I read my collection of past issues and yearn to write again. I see my old pieces that brought so much pleasure to my readers' faces and wish that I had a new Missy Times to send them, a Missy Times I could be proud of.
I must get it done. I WILL get it done. My dream of writing cannot die, I cannot give up my goal of becoming a journalist. If I ever want to grow up to be a famed writer, esteemed throughout the country for my talented work, I must first overcome this looming road block.
No one said it would be easy. If it were easy, then everyone would be amazing writers. It takes perserverance, it takes commitment, it takes work. That's why I'm going to stick with this. I'm going to write right through this until finally I've trounced this challenge and finished it, down til I've sealed the very last envolope.

The Missy Times is making a comeback. It is coming! And I promise you (and hold me to this) that by this time next week you will be holding an issue in your very own hands.

Summer Update

I haven't updated in over a month (oops!) and I think that may be a record. Ever since we returned home from our Nebraska trip -which you will hear all about in the upcoming Missy Times-  life around the Koshute household has been both busy and lazy at the same time. Last week Dad, Mom, Nick and I drove down to Deleware and spent some vacation time relaxing at Bethany Beach. I helped out at our church's Vacation Bible School the week before, and one Sunday before that, Mom, Gina and I went up to Moraine State Park where we biked and walked the trails around Lake Arthur. In between I've been swimming at the pool, hanging at the library, playing with friends, and watching Food Network Star and "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you a brief update and apologize for not posting in a while. I'll try harder to get some real, solid posts up this month so you won't be left in the dark. A new Missy Times is headed your way, so stay tuned to your mailbox!

Thanksgiving is Sneaking Up On You!

The Holidays are slowly sneaking up on us and before we know it we'll wake up and it will be Thanksgiving Day!
Do You have:

1. A favorite Thanksgiving memory?
2. A favorite Thanksgiving Tradition you carry on every year or have just started ?
3. Something you are particularly thankful for?
4. A favorite part of Thanksgiving?

If you answered yes to any, or all of the above, write it down in a little paragraph. However long or short it is does not matter; it could be one word or five-hundred words! All the responses I get will be compiled in the next The Missy Times for a special Thanksgiving issue. We need your help!

Email your little piece to mom.and.rose@gmail.com or just comment on this post.

Here's an example:
My favorite part of Thanksgiving is gathering around the table with family, cooking up warm and yummy food, and that nice, cozy Fall feeling.

It's as easy as that!

Wanted: Guest Writers

The Missy Times is in need of guest writers for the next issue. If you are interested in submitting an article, just send your typed piece of less than 500 words to mom.and.rose@gmail.com.
Here is something a guest writer wrote in the last issue:

A Business Travelers Journal
By Mark Koshute

Last week I was stuck in Michigan, Owosso Michigan to be exact, on business. I was providing technical service for a company that makes automotive foam headrests and armrests. There were not many hotels in the area and I ended up staying at a Quality Inn in a town called Durand, about ten miles away. While looking for a place to eat in downtown Durand I noticed what looked like and big old train station and clock tower. When paying my bill at the restaurant, called “Nick’s Place”, I asked the clerk what the town is known for and what is the significance of the tower. She said that Durand was known as the town of trains. “You can’t go anywhere without running into railroad tracks and getting delayed by trains” she said. Apparently a lot of railroad lines intersect at Durand. The building that I saw was indeed an old station. In fact it is home to the Michigan Railroad History Museum & Durand Union Station. It houses one of five Railroad Libraries in the USA and Michigan’s official railroad transportation information depository. As far as the tower was concerned, apparently “people come from all over the state to hear the bells ring”.
It is these kinds of surprise discoveries that make travel a little more tolerable. However, I would still rather be home.

Please submit your article soon!

Trick-or-Treat!

Aren't colored leaves awesome? Even more leaves have fallen off of the trees since this picture was taken and some trees have lost all their leaves already, like the tree by the park that had beautiful fiery red foliage. Most of the leaves that are left are of yellowish hues.
Last night was trick-or-treating in our town, and boy did Beaver get a good turn out! Second St. was just hopping with people weaving from house to house! It was quite interesting to go to all the different streets and experience each person's"candy giving style".
November is coming and so is a new issue of The Missy Times filled with more info about trick-or-treating, including my costume, this year's candy, pumpkin designs and some highlights of the night! Thanks for reading!
